CONTEXT
The 2030 Agenda (SDG 1.3) outlines a clear commitment to “implement nationally appropriate social protection systems and measures for all, including floors, and by 2030 achieve substantial coverage of the poor and vulnerable”. But with only six years to 2030, less than half the global population have access to social protection. Fewer than 1 in 10 children in low-income countries have access to child benefits, a figure which is 10 times lower than for those living in high-income countries.
We are failing.
Please join us for the 2024 UN Civil Society Conference side event Why universal social protection is essential for inclusive development, peace and security in the present and future. Participants will discuss how the Pact for the Future can focus more on expanding social protection coverage and its financing; and develop concrete proposals for the 2024 UN Civil Society Conference, the Summit of the Future in September 2024 at the UN Headquarters in New York and the Second World Summit For Social Development 2025.
